The ANZ Community Fund enables staff working in branches in Australia, and more recently in Cambodia, to provide support to unique, local causes. Through the Fund, local markets can offer in-kind support such as volunteering, access to business networks, in-branch promotions or expertise, in addition to financial assistance.
Here's one example: the ANZ Boronia local market in Victoria used the Community Fund to develop a local program called Kids First. It was designed by ANZ staff to help the children in local schools learn about good financial habits and physical fitness. Local CEO, Gary Conner, has been thrilled at the outcomes as the team brings it alive in the community.
"Our team is very excited by the potential of this project and the impact we have made already in our local area. So far, there have been 11,000 children participate in the physical or financial elements of the Kids First."
The ANZ Staff Foundation was established in Australia in 1988 to help meet the needs of Australian communities. It is jointly funded by ANZ staff in Australia and by ANZ. The Foundation has distributed $1.5 million to more than 150 charitable organisations throughout Australia since its inception.
The ANZ Staff Foundation funds small projects (usually up to $5,000) in the following areas:
The ANZ Staff Foundation accepts applications for grants twice a year: 15 January and 15 July. Access the Guidelines and/or an application (PDF 160kB).
A staff foundation also operates in New Zealand. It is a charitable trust through which staff in New Zealand support the organisations and projects that make a difference in the community. Since the Staff Foundation was founded in 2000 we have granted more than $800,000 to community organisations throughout New Zealand. NZ Staff can make regular donation through the payroll each fortnight. For every dollar staff members donate, the Bank matches it - dollar for dollar.
In Bangalore, Socially Aware ANZ or SAANZ is an employee driven initiative to support various community development projects in India. The SAANZ team is a network of volunteer champions that focus on smaller, lesser known charitable and development organisations for community giving. Projects supported by SAANZ are recommended by members who volunteer their time to be involved and funds are raised through payroll giving and donations.
In total $2.13 million was donated to charities through ANZ’s various Community Giving Programs during 2007-08. Staff contributed a significant amount of this funding through Payroll Giving and Team Giving activities.
